A versatile vocalist, Patrice Thompson has performed many styles
of music from gospel to rock. Her first stage appearance was at the age of 6 and
she knew right away that music was her passion. Patrice plays several
instruments including flute, bassoon and keyboards. Some of her musical
influences include Ella Fitzgerald, Cory Glover, Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone,
Stevie Wonder and Anita Baker. Classically trained, chamber and operatic music
provided her with some of her more challenging performances. She has performed
the complete works of the Verdi Requiem and Handel’s Messiah. She has also had
the great privilege of performing on the stage of Carnegie Hall in 2002 under
the direction of composer/ arranger John Rutter, performing his own work of
‘Requiem’. Some of her personal achievements as a vocalist include being awarded
the silver medal in the 1989 Washington state soloists competition in the alto
category as well as achieving gold medal status in 2002 at Musicfest Northwest
(formerly the Allied Arts Festival). She has had the privilege of being directed
by John Clayton while performing his arrangement of the Star Spangled Banner
that was popularized by Whitney Houston during the 1990 Superbowl. She has also
performed with acclaimed drummer Dave Weckl and with Portland’s own, guitarist
Dan Balmer.
Patrice has lived and performed in many cities including Honolulu,
Los Angeles and New York as well as internationally in Spain and Canada. She has
performed in several different languages including Swahili, French, German,
Latin and Portuguese and enjoys blues, jazz and experimental music styles. She
is a single mother and works full time for Safeco Insurance Company in Liberty
Lake. She has performance arts degrees through Spokane Falls Community College
and Musicians Institute of Hollywood. Current music projects include heading a
local up and coming band HooDoo UDU whose unique style blends blues, rock and
funk as well as performs with the well known premier local R&B band Soul
Proprietor.
